Jonathan: Am Hopeful of Victory

President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed confidence he will win today’s presidential election.

Mr. Jonathan is seeking re-election as the Presidential Candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.

Addressing journalists after voting at unit 13, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, about 3.15 p.m, Mr. Jonathan said, “I am hopeful, very hopeful” when asked if he expected to win.

Speaking against the background of challenges being experienced in some areas in respect of the use of the card readers, the President urged Nigerians not to condemn the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He said INEC wanted to use the card readers to make Nigeria elections more credible and transparent. He added that Nigerians should “sympathise” with INEC.

The president said even though he received field reports from all over the country, he would not reveal the information he got, saying it is only “Jega (the INEC Chairperson) that can speak for INEC”.

He said the Governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime, had called him to express worry over the card reader problem in the South-East State. He said the governor was “boiling”, but that he told him to calm down.

He also dismissed insinuations that the card readers were only not working in the PDP-controlled States.

Mr. Jonathan, his wife, Patience and mother, Eunice arrived the polling units to vote around 3.03 pm. Even though he came two hours after voting ought to start, he was allowed to vote first, just like he did during the accreditation process.
256 voters were accredited at Mr. Jonathan’s unit.

2015: Jonathan, First Lady arrive Otuoke for accreditation

The presidential candidate of the People Democratic Party, PDP, Goodluck Jonathan has arrived his country home, Otuoke in Bayelsa State for accreditation and voting.

DAILY POST observed that as early as 8.15am, electoral officials had arrived Otazi Playground, Polling Unit 039 in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area.

Jonathan, alongside his wife, Patience arrived at the polling unit at 9.20 for accreditation amid tight security.

At the time of this report, electoral officers were unable to get the sitting president accredited due to some technical issues.

The place is also surging with a lot of enthusiastic voters.

However, journalists, both local and foreign have also been on ground since the early hours of the morning to monitor and cover the processes.

2015: Governor Amaechi Refuse to vote

Rivers State Governor and Director General of the Buhari/Osinbanjo Campaign Organisation Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi could not exercise his franchise early today at his ward 8, unit 14, Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state due to unavailability of INEC results sheets.

The governor had at about 10:05 a.m Saturday arrived Ubima for accreditation but was reliably informed by the polling clerk of ward 8,unit 14 that there were no result sheets at the polling unit to collate the data of total votes cast after voting, a development which discouraged the governor from participating in the INEC accreditation and voting exercise.

A statement signed by the governor’s spokesman Mr. David Iyofor said, governor Amaechi could not participate in the accreditation and voting exercise because of unavailability of INEC result sheets in the polling unit.

The statement further said, the risk of participating in the INEC accreditation without the result sheets would pave way for election riggers to have a field day in the manipulation of the election results.

The APC members in the area had before the governor’s arrival refused to be accredited by the polling clerk due to lack of result sheets. They protested when the governor arrived. The governor also learnt that the INEC result sheets were not available in all wards of Ikwerre local government area and most polling units in the state.

Governor Amaechi complained severally to the State INEC Commissioner. As at 6pm, the situation remained the same.

Election Crisis in Rivers State Leave Some People Dead

I just received gruesome photos of dead men and a press statement from the APC in Rivers state. Looks like election in some areas in the state was very violent. Read statement below and see the pics after the cut.. *viewer discretion advised*
Today’s presidential and National Assembly elections have turned out to be a big nightmare for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, with the members being killed, attacked and disenfranchised in various parts of the State.
“Armed militias working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have intensified their killing of APC members. Scores have already been killed and several others marked for elimination. This morning in Kpite Town, Tai Ward 2 and other areas of the State, five people were shot dead by PDP’s armed militia, and that was before accreditation commenced,” Rivers APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said in a statement in Port Harcourt. Pictures of our killed members are attached.

Lamenting his party’s ordeal, Ikanya said: “It is sad that PDP and its collaborators are targeting APC strongholds and chieftains for attacks and killings. To intimidate our people and contrary to the court ruling forbidding the use of the Army in this election, there has been a massive deployment of soldiers in the State with clear instruction to shoot at sight any APC agent that refuses to comply with the evil plot of PDP to write the results of the election at some designated areas of the State in favour of PDP.”

Chief Ikanya gave the following specific horrifying examples of APC’s travails:

•Hon. Chidiebere Okwuwolu, former Commissioner and currently an APC leader, was arrested by police and taken to Olu Obasanjo Police Station in Port Harcourt along with 99 other arrested APC members scattered in various Police Stations in the State.

•At Ubima, the home town of Governor Chibuike Amaechi, the INEC results sheets are currently with Chief Nyesome Wike, the guber candidate of PDP in Rivers State. Governor Amaechi has refused to embark upon any accreditation because of lack of result sheets in all the polling units in the State, a situation contrived by INEC and PDP to make room for PDP to rig the election.

•At Andoni, the Local Government Area of Rivers State APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, and Chief Uche Secondus, the National Vice Chairman of PDP and his cousin, Engr Tele Ikuru (the Deputy Governor of Rivers State who few days defected to PDP) hell has been let loose; electoral materials have been hijacked by PDP agents in connivance with the Army that has been threatening to arrest and kill any APC chieftains in sight.

•The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Andoni Local Government area, Esuku Esuku, has been ordered out of Ngo, headquarters of Local Government, by the Joint Task Force (JTF)/army personnel deployed to Ngo, or be killed. •At Abonnema, headquarters of Akuku-Toru Local Government, materials are being distributed from the house of Minister of Sports, Chief Tammy Danagogo, instead of the INEC office, without any security personnel. Danagogo has held the policemen that ought to escort these materials to the polling units hostage and injuring DPO of Abonnema, Mr. Joseph Kayode for daring to accompany Hon Isobo Jack the Commissioner for Urban Development to the Polling Unit, relevant pictures attached.

•PDP thugs hijacked materials and INEC personnel meant for Akuku-Toru Wards 15, 16 and 17. The hijacked materials and men were taken to Freetown, a hinterland coastal community. The attack was led by two youths whose identities are known.  •In Tombia, in same Akuku-Toru Local Government, PDP had by Friday night filled the community with Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) bouncers who were attacking APC members and, at the same time, preventing those returning home to vote from entering the town. They were doing so in the presence of soldiers who were too few in number. The Caretaker Committer Chairman and others were injured on Friday. The over 30 APC members that wer

PDP: Card Reader hiccups avoidable, warns against under-aged voters

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the poor working of the Permanent Voter’s Card readers in Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections across the country could have been avoided if INEC had listened to sound advice from well meaning individuals and organizations including the PDP regarding their deployment without proper testing.

National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh in a statement on Saturday said the last minute resort to manual accreditation by INEC hours into the exercise against its earlier guidelines clearly showed the failure of the system.

“The unfortunate development is a vindication of our earlier position that as good as the idea of card readers is, it was too virgin to be successfully used in a general election without proper testing especially in an environment as ours that is not entirely digitally proficient”, it said.

The ruling party described as a huge national embarrassment that the card reader had problems in accrediting President Goodluck Jonathan, Governors Jonah Jang, of Plateau, James Ngilari of Adamawa, Isa Yuguda of Buachi among others and called for thorough explanation from INEC.

The PDP equally frowned at reported cases of accreditation of under-aged persons in some states especially in the northern part of the country and called on INEC not only to ensure that such unqualified persons were not allowed to vote but also to prosecute its officials involved in the crime.

The ruling party said it was seriously concerned about the developments given the avowed commitment of the President Goodluck Jonathan-led PDP administration to hitch-free, fair and credible electoral process.

It charged the electoral commission to take urgent steps within the law to ensure that no willing and qualified voter was disenfranchised, while urging Nigerians to remain calm in the overall interest of the nation.

Jonathan: I voted myself and PDP

A pressmen asked our beloved who he voted for after he cast his vote at his polling unit in Otuoke, Bayelsa state today, President Jonathan smiled and answered "I voted for myself and for the PDP".

South Korean Court legalize adultery

The South Korean constitutional court has, in its plenary session, struck out a 60-year-old law against adultery.

The law which forbids all acts of adultery and punishes violators with two years imprisonment was removed on Wednesday, citing the fact that the country does not have the power to interfere in peoples’ private lives.

In his ruling, the presiding Judge, Park Han Chul said; “Even if adultery should be condemned as immoral, state power should not intervene in individuals’ private lives.

Even though the incidence of adultery has dropped since 2008 till date, the Judge still saw reasons why the law should be abolished, claiming that the country should not involve itself in such situations, saying it is a private matter.

2015: Kogi Governor hails Jonathan for ensuring ‘one man, one vote’

Kogi State governor, Capt. Idris Wada, has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for keeping his promise of ensuring the implementation of one-man, one-vote in the current Presidential and National Assembly elections holding across the country.

The Governor stated this shortly after being accredited under 10 seconds through a card reader at Odu Ward 1, Unit 001, Odu-Ogboyaga.

While appreciating the electorate for their orderliness in the exercise, Wada said, “President Jonathan has kept his promise to ensure one-man, one vote.

“The Federal Government, under President Jonathan, has provided what it promised.”

He equally hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for restoring the confidence of the people in the electoral system.

“The work that INEC has done over the years is manifesting and the people are now confident that their votes will count with the credibility and transparency of the system.

“Once there is confidence in the system and the electoral umpire, the people will come out to vote.

Buhari says Military plans to rig for PDP
“I am very happy about the calm and focus the commission has brought to bear on this exercise,” Wada declared.

A PDP Chieftain Killed in Osun

A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State, Yomi Ademola, was in the early hours of Saturday murdered by some unknown gunmen.
Residents of the area were woken up with the sound of gunshots at around 4:45 am by the hoodlums who carried out the dastardly act.
It was gathered that the deceased had recently defected to the PDP from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.
