Plots To Unseat Rivers Governor uncovered

Plots To Unseat Rivers Governor uncovered
A socio-political group in Rivers State, the Rivers Peoples Forum says it has uncovered a fresh plot sponsored by an unnamed governor of a South-South state and a serving minister to violently remove Governor Rotimi Amaechi from office.

The RPF, which represents Rivers people at home and abroad, alleged that the latest plot was in response to the recent reception organized by Governor Amaechi for chieftains of the All Progressives Congress who visited the state earlier this month.

The RPF claimed that an Abuja cabal that had been behind the crisis in Rivers State was also spearheading the fresh plot.

In a statement signed by the President of the RPF, Charles Bekwele, the group also fingered two cabinet ministers in the alleged plot, including one from the North who aspires to become governor of his state.

The RPF President noted that the second mister also wants to be governor, adding that all the characters involved in the fresh plot are close to the Presidency.

Bekwele said part of the plot was to unleash violence in parts of Rivers State to give the impression that it had become ungovernable, which would then pave for the declaration of emergency rule.

He further alleged that homes of two former senators and another prominent politician could be targeted, as well as those of some of Governor Amaechi’s staunch supporters.

According to him, “Irked further by the rousing and mammoth reception given to the All Progressives Congress, APC, leaders by Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and his supporters in Port Harcourt recently, the Abuja cabal that has been behind the crisis in Rivers State has hatched a fresh plot to violently, illegally and unconstitutionally remove the Governor from office.

“This new plot to illegally remove Governor Amaechi is been financed by a South-South governor and two cabinet ministers, one from the north who wants to be governor of his State and the other minister who is in charge of a very critical ministry that has been unable to solve the crisis rocking his ministry for months. This second mister also wants to be governor of his State; and all these characters involved in this fresh plot are very well known to be very close to the First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan”, the statement revealed.

“The evil plot is to unleash violence in various parts of the State, so that Rivers State would be presented as ungovernable and in the turmoil to pave the way for the declaration of a state of emergency and use that as a reason to remove Governor Amaechi from office.

“The homes of two ex-senators and another prominent politician are targeted to be touched by arsonists. Some of Governor Amaechi’s staunch supporters are also targets. A known militant have been contacted to execute most of the acts of violence in the State.

“Money for this plot would be brought in from Abuja and the State of the South-South governor in six ambulances to divert attention from the real purpose of the ambulances. A lot of these funds would be used to take care of the police in the State and fully secure their (police) support for the plot to unleash violence in the State.

“Finally, we want to restate and warn that Governor Amaechi was given the mandate by Rivers people to be their governor until May, 29, 2014. Any attempt, we repeat, any attempt to truncate this collective mandate of Rivers people would be firmly resisted by Rivers people. We will not allow any individual or cabal to truncate our collective mandate given to Governor Amaechi. This Abuja cabal must henceforth desist from such insidious plots that will certainly throw our polity into disarray and threaten our democracy. They have been warned”, the statement concluded.
